DE LA MARE (WALTER) THE VEIL AND OTHER POEMS L:Constable 1921 viii + 92pp. Decorated boards. Title-label on spine is worn; a little wear to cover corners; some foxing; otherwise a very good copy of this first edition.
Nothing directly to do with broadcasting but this copy is inscribed “Hilda Matheson from K.W./Christmas 1921”. K.W. was Matheson’s lover, Kate Walsh. Hilda Matheson was a pioneer in the art of the radio talk. She was the BBC's first Director of Talks, and brought such intellectuals as H.G. Wells, Bernard Shaw, and another woman who became her lover, the novelist Vita Sackville-West, to the microphone. She resigned in 1931 after a massive row with Reith. During the war she ran the Joint Broadcasting Committee. A nice association copy. Price:
50.00 GBP
